How to Draw a Rocket Ship: Easy Step-by-Step for Kids
How to draw a rocket ship in 7 easy steps
A rocket ship is one of the best first drawings there is: one tall shape with a pointy top, two fins, a round window and a big whooshing flame. Every line is simple, and the finished rocket looks ready for the moon.
Follow the seven steps below on paper, or tap "Draw it live" and DrawAlong will guide each line on screen, checking every stroke as you go.
How to draw a rocket ship, step by step
1Draw the tall rocket with a pointy top
Start with the biggest shape: a tall rocket body with a pointy top, like a really long egg standing up.
2Draw the left fin
Add a fin on the left side, swooping out and down like a slide.
3Draw the right fin
Add a matching fin on the right side.
4Draw the engine at the bottom
Draw the engine at the bottom: a little upside-down hat under the rocket.
5Draw the whooshing flame
Draw the whooshing flame coming out of the engine, down to a point.
6Draw the round window
Draw a big round window in the middle of the rocket.
7Draw a stripe across the rocket
Finish with a straight stripe across the rocket. Three, two, one, blast off!
Time to color!
Classic look: a white rocket with a coral stripe, sky blue window and a yellow-orange flame. Or paint a night-sky background with the background bucket!
In the live version, coloring is tap-to-fill: pick a color, tap a part, done.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this a good first drawing?
- One of the very best. It is mostly one big shape plus a few simple additions, so even young kids finish it quickly and get a picture that really looks like a rocket.
- What does this drawing teach?
- Long controlled lines (the tall body), symmetry (the two fins), and circles (the window). All three are core pencil-control skills.
- Can we color it in?
- Yes! After the last line, every part becomes tap-to-fill: body, fins, stripe, window, engine and flame. The background bucket makes a great outer space.
